Calling all vintage vehicle fans! The Cumbria Steam Gathering is back in Flookburgh for a weekend packed with heritage machinery, family fun and old-school charm. This much-loved annual event features hundreds of steam engines, classic cars, motorbikes, tractors and even a full-size fairground.

There’s also a packed schedule of arena displays, craft stalls, trade stands and food vendors, so even if you’re not a die-hard steam buff, there’s still plenty to enjoy. Kids will love the working exhibits and mini steam rides, and there’s live music and beer tents for the grown-ups too.

5. Lakes Makers Fair

Staveley Mill Yard, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July

If you’re after something a little more relaxed but no less inspiring, the Lakes Makers Fair at Windermere Jetty is the place to be. Featuring some of the most talented artists and craftspeople in Cumbria, this weekend fair is perfect for picking up unique gifts, handmade homewares and original art.

The museum’s lakeside location makes it a lovely day out in itself, and the fair adds even more charm with stalls, demonstrations and the chance to meet the makers. From ceramics to textiles, jewellery to printmaking, there’s a creative treat around every corner.

Why we love it: It’s a great way to support local makers, and the museum café has some of the best views (and cakes) in the Lakes.
