This February half-term, a magical adventure awaits families visiting Milnthorpe, just south of Kendal, with the Towpath Troll Trail. From the 17th to the 23rd of February, little adventurers can embark on a journey to find ten friendly trolls, cleverly designed by artist Anja Phoenix. The trolls are scattered along the beautiful Lancaster Canal Towpath, ready to be discovered on a fun, family-friendly walk.
The Towpath Troll Trail is a fantastic way to explore the outdoors while keeping the kids entertained. Each troll has its own quirky personality and is lovingly crafted to bring a bit of whimsy to the countryside. Whether you’re spotting a troll hiding behind a tree or peeking out from the bushes, there’s plenty of magic and mystery to keep the whole family engaged.
Getting started is easy! Simply head to the Millness Car Park, where the trail begins. Maps of the route are available for free and can be downloaded from the Lancaster Canal Towpath Trail website. You can also pick up a map at the Crooklands Hotel, a family-run spot that’s perfect for a break after your walk, or directly at Millness Car Park.
The trail stretches along the canal towpath, making it a lovely, leisurely walk suitable for all ages. The route is mostly flat, so it’s perfect for little legs and buggies too. And with ten trolls to find, there’s no shortage of excitement along the way. As you follow the trail, you’ll discover not only the trolls but also the stunning natural beauty of the area – the canal, fields, and woodlands are perfect for a relaxing day out.
Whether you’re a local or visiting for the half-term break, the Towpath Troll Trail is an adventure you won’t want to miss. It’s the perfect opportunity for families to get outside, explore, and make some magical memories together. So, grab your map, put on your walking shoes, and get ready to meet the friendly trolls of Milnthorpe!
