A brand new summer festival is coming to Whitehaven. Even better, organisers have confirmed that Vengaboys will top the bill.
The Whitehaven Weekender will take place on the harbourside across 29 and 30 August. Organisers expect up to 10,000 visitors over the two days. So if you enjoy lively crowds and seaside views, this could be one to mark in your diary.
The event comes from the teams behind Harbour Fest and Pride by the Harbourside. Meanwhile, Rosehill will curate Saturday’s programme. Then on Sunday, Northern Equality and Diversity will lead the celebrations, including a Pride parade and live music finale.
As well as headline acts, visitors can explore Eat Street, curated by Lakeland Life Events. There will also be community stalls, local groups and interactive activities for all ages. Therefore families, couples and friends should all find something to enjoy.
Organisers say most daytime entertainment will be free and open to everyone. However, the main music zone on Sunday will be ticketed. So if you want to catch the headline show, you will need to book ahead.
Glenn Anderson from Northern Equality and Diversity said the Pride event has always focused on joy and self expression. He added that bringing Vengaboys to town should help create a huge party atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Rosehill chief executive Jen Garrick called the weekend a chance for the community to unite through creativity and culture. She noted that festivals face challenges across the country. Still, she believes this event will deliver a bold and colourful celebration of the town and its people.
Support also comes from Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, which has backed both Harbour Fest and Pride by the Harbourside since they began. Representatives said they are proud to help host a collaborative event filled with family friendly art, food and fun.
So if you fancy live music, street food and a feel good festival vibe, Whitehaven Weekender looks set to bring plenty of energy to the coast this bank holiday.
